Gaza Community Mental Health Programme presented a scientific paper through Dr. Nour Hassan, clinical psychologist and Director of the Gaza Community Center, detailing the programme’s interventions to reduce suicide risk in Gaza.
The interventions include psychological awareness and education, training staff to detect early warning signs, providing Psychological First Aid (PFA), operating hotline services, specialized psychotherapy, and protocols for handling high-risk cases. The presentation also showcased real-life success stories of beneficiaries, demonstrating the importance of early intervention and continuous support.
Challenges faced by the teams were also highlighted, including operational difficulties, medication shortages, communication disruptions, and the intense pressures associated with working under ongoing conflict conditions. Through this presentation, GCMHP reaffirmed its commitment to suicide prevention by promoting early detection and treatment of mental disorders, reducing their escalation, raising community awareness, and combating the stigma surrounding mental health.
