Amid the ongoing emergency caused by the genocidal war, GCMHP conducted awareness sessionsinseveralsheltersinCentralGaza,targetingdisplacedmenandwomen.Thesessions focused on gender-based violence (GBV) and its impact on mental health.
The sessions aimed to raise awareness of the risks of GBV, which tend to increase during conflict and displacement, and to highlight the potential psychological consequences for survivors— especially women and girls—such as persistent anxiety, low self-confidence, anger or emotional breakdowns, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
During the sessions, participants discussed the different forms of violence, protection mechanisms, and available psychosocial support that can be provided under current circumstances.Thesessionsalsoofferedasafespaceforparticipantstoexpresstheirfeelings, shareexperiences,andinteractwitheducationalmaterialsprovidedbytheprogram.
Participants emphasized that this type of awareness-raising is urgently needed given the increased psychological burdens faced by displaced families. They also highlighted the importanceofprovidingcontinuous,comprehensivepsychologicalsupporttoaffectedgroups, alongside other humanitarian interventions.
