Gaza Community Mental Health Programme organized a Graduation Ceremony for the High Diploma in Community Mental Health Graduates
In partnership with the Faculty of Education at the Islamic University of Gaza, the Training and Research Department at Gaza Community Mental Health Programme organized a graduation ceremony for the High Diploma in Community Mental Health Graduates. The ceremony was in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Abu Shahla, Chairman of GCMHP's Board of Directors, Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Director General, Ms. Rawya Hamam, Director of the Training and Research Department, Dr. Mohammed Abu Shukair, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the Islamic University, as well as diploma teachers. In addition to many representatives from NGOs, INGOs and the graduates families.
The ceremony commenced with a welcoming speech by Dr. Abu Shahla, talking about the Higher Diploma in Community Mental Health and its role in preparing and qualifying students to obtain a higher scientific degree in mental health. He added that the Higher Diploma is consistent with the local Palestinian culture and norms, which helps to conceptualize mental health and human rights in Palestine. Dr. Abu Shahla continued to say that the high diploma program is well-recognized and reputable at the international academic level.
During the ceremony, Dr. Mohammed Abu Shukair congratulated the Programme for its achievement. He stressed on the importance of strengthening and developing the partnership between the university and GCMHP.
Moreover, Ms. Rawya Hamam greeted the late Dr. Eyad Al-Sarraj and his great role in the establishment of GCMHP and the high diploma program. She emphasized that the high diploma program is the first of its kind in the Palestinian Territory. She added, 254 students graduated from this program including medicine, nursing, psychology, sociology and physiotherapy specialties since 1997 till this year. She also added most of the graduates are currently working in different NGOs and INGOs. Ms. Hamam finalized her speech by announcing the registration for the twentieth batch of the High Diploma.
Moreover, Ms. Nour Abdel Wahed, a Psychologist at GCMHP and one of the high diploma graduates highlighted the role of the high diploma program in giving the graduates two chances. The first one is to be a member of GCMHP's family. The second is to obtain a high diploma in community mental health. She added that the practical training in the diploma enabled the participants to discover their personal skills in mental health. She emphasized the role of the diploma in creating a generation of qualified professionals.
Professor Guido Veronese, one of the international trainers in the Higher Diploma Program delivered a recorded message, where he talked about his personal experience in teaching , stressing on the importance of the diploma for professionals and specialists to serve the Palestinian community
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Abu Shahla and Dr. Abu Jamei distributed the certificates on the graduates. They also distributed certificates of appreciation on the diploma teachers.
