GCMHP finalizes a Training Course entitled "Children’s Mental Health”
In cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Training and Research Department of Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) finalized a training course entitled "Children’s Mental Health”". The trainees participated were 21 football and volleyball coaches from Al-Maghazi Club, Beit Hanoun Youth Club, Palestinian Red Crescent Society Club in Khan Yunis and Al-Hilal Sports Club in Gaza .The training was conducted by a group of psychologists and professionals from GCMHP and GIZ and was held at Al Mashtal hotel in Gaza city.
The training course included 124 hours were delivered during 17 days and consisted of three phases. It tackled several important topics including ; the growth and development stages of children aged between 12 and 17 , the most important psychological, behavioral and emotional changes, an introduction to trainers' rehabilitation , the skills for dealing with traumatized children through sports, the mental health and its impact on the "Discovery and Referral", the effective communication skills, and psychological first aid for children and adults. The training also discussed the most common psychological problems among children and adolescents such as anxiety, depression, impulse, addiction and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Moreover, the training addressed related subjects such as; the effective psychological mechanisms for dealing with children, the six categories of sports and physical activities, stress management , self-care, and the special psychological considerations for people with disabilities.
Furthermore, the trainer from GCMHP, Ms. Alaa Saleh, appreciated the trainees' effective interaction during the training, urging them to apply what they have learnt in their practical life. She also highlighted the importance of the cooperation between GCMHP and GIZ. On their turn, the trainees thanked the trainers, GCMHP and the GIZ for their efforts to conduct this training.
